News Update – 05/09/2025
Dear Parent / Guardian / Colleague / Board Member,
P.A. A.G.M.
The AGM took place on Tuesday evening last. All three outgoing officers; Aoife Fenlon McCarthy, Caroline Bourke and Kathryn Tulk gave detailed summaries of P.A. business in relation to their respective roles during 2024/25 school year. The principal thanked them for their great work on behalf of the school and its pupils, highlighting Aoife’s special commitment to the role during her five-year tenure. The following officers were elected for the new year. Niamh Brown – Chair, Aoife Fenlon McCarthy, Vice Chair, Noreen O’Gorman, Secretary and Liz Brew, Treasurer. The principal congratulated the new officer board and wished it well for the year ahead. The new committee spent some time formulating a new plan for the year, with some new ideas for events and fundraising.
Secretary / Caretaker Strike
We as a school community very much appreciate the work of our secretary Rose and caretaker Jim. While Jim has only been with us a few years, Rose has been working here since 1997/98. The following is a statement from our patron on the issue. Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan Statement It is also important to state that we value the work of Tina our cleaner and Majella/Aoife our pre/post school supervisors and all who help our pupils either paid or voluntary.
Monies Due
Thanks to all who have already paid the Insurance / Arts & Crafts / photocopying monies for the year ahead. Among other things, this entitles your child to full 24/7 insurance cover for; in school, school related and out of school activities. This €50 can be paid through the Aladdin Connect App or via cash at the office.
Swimming
Block A commences on Fri 12th Sept for Rg 4&6. A note was sent home yesterday for parents to sign and return. A link has opened on Aladdin Connect for payment. A fee of €50 can also be paid to Rose in the office. Rg 3&5 will attend swimming in the spring.
Darren Guiry Sponsorship
We extend our thanks to past pupil Darren Guiry of DGB Construction on his generous sponsorship of two sets of jerseys for our school teams. Darren called in on Wednesday to present these jerseys along with daughter Emily Rg 4. Please see photo on our social media site. We wish Darren and staff continued success in the construction industry. Darren helped us out as part time caretaker, prior to setting up DGB Construction.
Panda Playground Committee
Will host a Completion Celebration Day tomorrow, Saturday between 12 noon – 2 pm. They are asking families to come along for – “lots of fun and play…free sweets and ice-cream for all to enjoy” Well done to the committee on building such a valuable amenity in the vicinity and better still, being debt free a year after opening.
Homework
At recent staff meetings, following discussions around literacy, the staff highlighted homework and reading as areas to be improved upon this year. We thank you for your interaction to date. We would appreciate it if you would work with us in ensuring that children take pride in the completion of their work. We would also ask you to review the work as regards its completion and presentation and only sign once content. Work completed at After School should also be checked. This is a very good way to keep up with what your child is doing and how he / she is progressing. We also stress the importance of reading nightly at home, and listening to and engaging with your child’s reading especially in the younger classes. Homework normally involves the three areas of reading, learning and writing.
Housekeeping
Could I ask all families to ensure that all jumpers coats / lunchboxes are individually labelled. Each year we have a mounting collection of mislaid items of clothing which are left unclaimed. Could I also ask that parents would ensure that their emergency contacts on Aladdin Connect are not that of themselves. We have contact details for parents. For emergencies, we need names and numbers for other trusted people, should we be unable to contact parents first and foremost
