News Update – 07/02/2025
Dear Parent / Colleague / Board Member,
The Weir.
Thanks to those of you who supported The Weir Production on Friday night last. We hope you had an enjoyable evening. Brideview Players captivated the audience for two hours in a wonderful set. The overall reaction has been very positive and we wish them well in competition. Thanks to all committee members, the Parents Association, who helped with the raffle and indeed the sponsors of the raffle prizes, Ardmore Open Farm, James Whelan Butchers, O’Reilly Totalhealth Pharmacy, Dungarvan Cinema and The Beauty Spot by Lauren Guiry. Thanks also to Pat Melody and Jim Ryan for including us in the promotion of this production.
Aladdin Connect Update.
At present, 80% of our families have registered for Aladdin Connect. A reminder with codes was sent on Wednesday and another will issue today at 6 pm, for those who have yet to do so. (One and/or two parents can register in each family.) Many families have logged on and are using the application to enhance communication such as explain absences or amend contact details. Text messaging will be done through this medium once most families have registered. Thank you again for your cooperation in this regard. For further information on set up, please check. New Academic Year Start Date.
It has been agreed by staff, that pupils would return to school on Thurs 28th Aug 2025. This advance notice may help families plan summer holidays or organise leave for new infants. Parents of new junior infant families will receive an email later this evening in relation to the enrolment process. Our Open Afternoon is planned for Wednesday 4th June.
Family Quiz.
We hope to host a Family Quiz, similar to last year’s version at the Community Centre on Fri 28th March. For it to proceed, we would need 20 tables comprising of teams of no more than four persons, with two being of primary school age. If there is a demand, we certainly will stage the event and let people know in March. If staged, this will be our fourth such event. Our school has had some recent success in various quizzes lately. Please see our social media page for updates. This Sunday, pupils of Rg 6 will compete in the much-coveted Clonmel Credit Union Quiz. We wish them all the best.
Safer Internet Day.
Safer Internet Day (SID) is an EU wide initiative to promote a safer internet for all users, especially young people. This will take place on Tues next 11th Feb. This ties in nicely with the introduction of our Bí Cineálta policy and ways to reduce and hopefully eliminate cyberbullying situations externally.
Ficheall / Chess Competition.
6th Class had a very enjoyable day in the Community Centre today at the Ficheall Tournament. They had been practising their chess over the past few weeks and were delighted to compete against pupils from four other schools. The pupils were part of teams of eight and were very proud of their certificate at the end of the day.
Spring has Sprung?
As we turn their attention to spring and our pupils help us with brilliant bird boxes, I am minded to think of the following lines from William Wordsworth’s ‘Lines Written in Early Spring’
The birds around me hopped and played,
Their thoughts I cannot measure:
But the least motion which they made.
It seemed a thrill of pleasure…
Is mise,
Michael J. O’Ryan – Principal.
