News Update – 20/03/2026
Dear Parent, Colleague, Board member,
Enrolment
We hope that those who expressed an interest in enrolling a child in our school have received an enrolment pack over the past week or two and are currently completing Form 2. Our ASD Class application process is now open and will remain so until 8th April. Further information is available under the enrolment tab on our website: https://www.ballymacns.com/enrolment/
World Down Syndrome Day
Children were invited to wear odd socks to school today to highlight World Down Syndrome Day, which takes place tomorrow worldwide. They also brought in an extra sock to help create an “odd sock” display along the school perimeter fence. Well done to all involved for supporting this important awareness initiative.
Quiz Night
Our Family Quiz will take place next Thursday at 7:00 pm. Teams should be made up of tables of four, with two children per table. The entry fee is €20 per team. We currently have 23 teams registered, and tables will be reserved for these families. There may be space for a small number of additional teams. A raffle will be held on the night, and light refreshments will be provided courtesy of the Parents’ Association.
Sport
Our boys’ and girls’ teams travelled to Bohadoon this week to participate in a 7-a-side hurling and camogie competition. They all made a great effort and thoroughly enjoyed the morning, competing against other schools from the western region. The boys’ team reached the semi-final, while the girls progressed to the quarter-final—well done to all involved.
Carambola
I hope to update the school community on the recent survey in next week’s newsletter. I also expect to share the new Term 3 menu for your review over the break.
Easter Holidays
Please note that there will be no hot food available next Friday, as the school will close at 12:30 pm. The after-school service will continue as normal until 6:00 pm.
Bingo
Proceeds from tonight’s Bingo in the Community Centre will go towards supporting Tidy Towns in their ongoing great efforts to keep our locality clean and well maintained for the 2026 season. We enjoy a strong relationship with Tidy Towns and encourage anyone who can to attend and show their support.
Spring Equinox
We have now reached the spring equinox—equal day and equal night. With daylight saving time just one week away, the longer, brighter days of spring are truly upon us.
Is mise,
Michael J. O’Ryan
