News Update – 04/06/2021

Dear Parent / Guardian / Colleague / Board Member,

Deepest Sympathy. We extend our sympathy to our BoM treasurer, Melissa Meehan and her family on the death of her father, Erving Randall, from New Brunswick, Canada. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé.

Comhghairdeas. Firstly, we congratulate Aoife Fenlon (Chairperson of The Parents’ Association) and her husband Dermot who were married last weekend. Long life health and happiness to you both.

Slán. Today we say farewell to Miss Denmead, who leaves us after initially starting with us in Nov 2019. She was a member of the Special Ed team during her first year and served as Rang 3 class teacher since Easter. We thank her for her work and wish her well into the future. We welcome Mrs McGrath (nee O’Gorman) back to Rang 3 from Wed next.

Covid Update.  Thankfully no further scares this week. The attendance rate has been steady at 95%. We welcomed back Barry Dunne–GAA coach on Wednesday and look forward to 2 further visits from him in the next fortnight. As we approach the last Bank Holiday weekend of the school year we ask you to kindly complete a Self Declaration slip for each child/staff member returning to school on Wednesday. These slips have been distributed and are also attached.

School Tours.  Our infant tours took place this week. Both travelled to Parson’s Green, Clogheen. The children enjoyed themselves immensely. Great reports came back from our pupils and of our pupils. Thanks to all staff and bus drivers for their assistance. We will continue these for Rang 1 & Rang 2 on Wed 9th June and Tuesday 22nd June respectively.   Active Week will take place on the week beginning Monday 14th June.

Sacraments Update. Reminder Penance Service for all Rang 2 pupils will take place on Wednesday next at Fourmilewater at 7:30pm. Confirmation will take place locally on Sunday 4th July at 11am and 2pm.

Testing / Reporting. Standardised testing has finished throughout the school this week. Undoubtedly results will be down nationally due to Covid-19 and the fact that there was no testing in 2020. These results are currently being collated and inserted into the School Reports which you will receive in two weeks time by post.

Classes / Booklists. You will also receive information on class splitting and class teachers for Sept 2021 later in June.

Book lists will be handed out to children prior to closure. This summer, please pay particular attention to the booklists as some teachers will have split classes and hence two booklists.

Miscellaneous. Rang 5 travelled to Raheen College today for a taster to secondary school life while Rang 6 enjoyed a Zoom session hosted by Waterford City & County Council on local placenames.

Reminders.

  1. As advised in the Academic Calendar, the school will close for Monday & Tuesday of the Bank holiday weekend. See you all on Wednesday 9th
  2. Please organise for your child/children to have a hurley and helmet. These will be needed on Wednesday 9th & Wednesday 16th for Hurling / Camogie coaching.
  3. Please return a Self Declaration slip for each child on Wednesday next.

Is mise,

Michael J.O’Ryan – Príomh oide
