News Update – 10/06/2022

Dear Parent / Guardian, Colleague & Board Member,

This week:

Highlights of the week include Ms Dunlea’s class school tour to Activate Waterford today. Latest update is that parents can collect their children from B.M.C. Community Centre at 4pm this evening. (A text will follow shortly to this effect.)

Rg 6 completed their R.S.E. day with Ms Edel Harding on Wednesday and artist Maureen Purcell, began renewing our local history mural with the help of 6th class pupils. Maureen is no stranger to our school and is the person largely responsible for the incredible internal art work. We thank her for her assistance and mentoring of the pupils.

Next week:

The coming week represents Active Week at our school. In addition to academic work, teachers will be finding ways and time for their pupils to engage in activities. Traditional events would involve walks, coaching sessions, inflatables and would culminate with Sports Day on Friday. A school timetable is being developed by Mrs Kelly and her team and will be operational from Monday. To break the week down further;

On Monday, Coach Barry Dunne will visit, so please bring along hurleys and helmets.

Rg 4 and their teacher will travel to SETU Waterford, (formerly WIT) to present their business ideas. Bus leaves school at 9:15pm Pat Power, Athletics coach from Waterford Sports Partnership will visit us on Monday and Tuesday.

Our Parents’ Association will kindly sponsor Inflatable’s Day on Tuesday.

On Wednesday our Rg 3 & 4 will travel to Kilkenny on school tour. (Drop off/ collection will be to /from Comm. Centre)

First Responder and parent Alan Walsh will spend some time with Rg 6 on CPR / First Aid. They will also continue with preparations for their Confirmation Day on Tues 21st June 2pm/4pm. Weather permitting, we also hope to advance our mural restoration with Maureen.

Cake Sale: We will host a Cake Sale at our school on Thursday morning next in aid of past pupil Aisling Kennedy with proceeds going to her Recovery Fund. All classes are invited to bake and purchase produce for the day at our school. There will also be a raffle with spot prizes announced on Monday. More information early next week. Go fund me link for Aisling https://gofund.me/33cc94a6

Also on Thursday, our Rg 6 boys and girls will compete in a blitz organised by Scoil Mhuire, Newcastle in honour of their colleague, the late Deirdre O’Ryan / McCarthy. We are very happy to participate in this tournament in her memory.

Sports Day will take place on Friday, weather permitting, so you can be getting those potatoes / spoons / sacks and old tights ready in advance.

Golden Jubilee:

As we approach our Golden Jubilee, we intend to inform our school community of our intentions, before the end of this school year.

Reminder:

The Boil Water Notice continues so it’s important that extra refreshments be brought to school daily for Active Week.

Is mise,

Michael J. O’Ryan – Principal.
