News Update – 20/10/2023

Dear Parent / Guardian / Colleague / Board Member,

Cumann na mBunscol GAA – The INTO Programme of Football finals, including our own Girls ‘A’ Western Final, scheduled for tomorrow is postponed due to the amount of rainfall witnessed in Dungarvan and more specifically the Dungarvan GAA Club Grounds earlier this week. We will notify parents of the rearranged fixture once it is decided. Conor Prendergast GAA coach will again visit the school on Wednesday next.

Sacramental Preparation – Our Rang 2 boys and girls will have their first preparation mass for Holy Communion this Sunday in Fourmilewater at 9 am while our Rang 6 pupils will have their combined Commitment Ceremony and Ceremony of Light in Fourmilewater Church on Wednesday next at 7:30 pm. (N.B. This pre–Confirmation Ceremony includes those pupils receiving the sacrament in the Nire next spring.)

Maths Week – Staff and pupils alike engaged in many enjoyable activities this week in school. Please refer to our school media page for a selection of same.

BoM Elections – Thank you for returning the self-nomination slips associated with stage one. The closing date is today, Friday. Next week we will move onto stage two, where all families will again get a letter informing them of the nominees for each panel and the classes of their child / children. Families will get a chance to second these nominations before we move onto the voting stage. While this is a thorough and tedious process, it is also a democratic and transparent one, followed by all schools, throughout the country.

Halloween Holidays – School will close this day week at 3 pm and reopen on Monday 6th Nov at 9:20 am

Costume Day – As is tradition, pupils are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes on Friday next, but we would caution against face painting etc. for Rang 5/6 who will have their final swim lesson that afternoon.

Maith Sibh! – Well done to our local scouts and venturers who slept out for Shine-a-Light, Focus Ireland last Friday night, raising over €800 in the process.

Beir Bua! – Best wishes to both the Nire Intermediate Footballers and Miss Boyce and her Ballymacarbry Senior Lady colleagues in the County Final and Munster Club campaign respectively, this weekend.

Is mise, Michael J. O’Ryan

Parents Association Newsletter. – We held our A.G.M. in September and appointed Aoife Fenlon–McCarthy as chairperson, Caroline Bourke as secretary and Kathyn Tulk as treasurer. We would like to thank Theresa O’Gorman and Therese O’Flynn for their work in those roles last year. Thank you, to all who took part in our P.A. survey. We greatly appreciate the feedback. Our data will be made available to everyone. We will be working with the school to see what can be facilitated. All parents are welcome to our next meeting in January, (date T.B.C.) where we will go through this in detail. We recently contributed towards the Athletics Meet in Clonmel. Forty-eight of our Rang 3-6 students took part. Congratulations to all. We are organising a Halloween Disco on the 27th October next in the Community Centre. There will hopefully also be a Family Table Quiz before Christmas. In December, we hope to have a Christmas Jumper Exchange and we are also planning for a ‘Special Guest’ visit before the Christmas holidays. Thanks in advance for donations and volunteers for the year ahead. Regards – Aoife Fenlon-McCarthy P.A.
