News Update – 21/04/2023

Dear Parent / Guardian / Colleague / Board Member,

Colm Ryan, RIP – We again commiserate with the extended Ryan family of Curtiswood on the death of Colm during the Easter holidays. It was with immense shock that we heard the news of his unexpected and untimely death. Our thoughts go out to Paudie in Rg 5 and Lily (past pupil). His nephews, Brandon (Godson) Kalvin, Casey and niece, Leah who are currently with us. Sympathy also to Aileen, Colm’s father Pat and partner Anne, his mother Lorraine and her partner John, brothers Wayne and Pa and sister Dawn and wide circle of relatives and friends. Thanks to those pupils from Rang 5 who joined with members of staff in forming a guard of honour at Fourmilewater Cemetery on Tues 11th April last. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilís.

T.I.M.M.S. – Assessment in Rg 4 took place on Tues 18th April. While Miss Denmead administered the test, we were joined by our divisional inspector and a dedicated IT person to coordinate laptops during the procedure. Any feedback which comes from the testing will be forwarded to the parent group in time. Thank you for returning the envelopes and completing the questionnaire.

Post Confirmation Mass – Rg 6 will participate in FMW mass this Sunday at 9am.

Reminder – Holy communion will take place in FMW on Sat 6th May at 11 am and in the Nire on Sunday 14th May also at 11 am. Sr Antoinette from the diocesan office will join us on Monday next.

Academic Calendar – We have updated our academic calendar for Term 3 and will publish it on our website. https://www.ballymacns.com/parent-info/ A hard copy will distribute to pupils next week. Please replace the older version as there are two changes before the end of June owing to compulsory department sanctioned in-service, namely English and Irish Language Development and changes to the new Primary School Curriculum.

School Transport – The closing date for school transport application for the upcoming school year is Friday 28th April. Please activate the link below if you have a child commencing in Junior Infants or commencing in Secondary school and will need bus transport. https://schooltransport.buseireann.ie

GAA. – Our hurlers travelled to Cappoquin on Thursday to commence the INTO Cumann na mBunscol Hurling competition. We enjoyed victory over Bunscoil Gleann Sidheáin, Cappoquin but were defeated by Bunscoil Bhóthar na Naomh, Lismore and Scoil na Leanaí, An Rinn. We do however qualify for the Shield Semi Final. Maith sibh a bhuachaillí agus Bean Uí Bhroin.

Congrats to our past pupils Olan, James and Eoin who were members of the CBS High School Clonmel, rugby team, who won the Munster Final in Thomond Park, Limerick on Saturday last.

On a related note, Mrs Connolly informs me that we have now finished collecting Aldi stickers and completed 7 posters in total. Thanks to all our families who participated, collecting 2,100 stickers. We are in with a chance of winning €50,000 for our school.

It’s worth noting that the current captains of the Waterford Ladies Senior Football team, the Waterford Senior Hurling team and indeed the Waterford Senior Football team are all past pupils of our school. A great honour for themselves, their families, their clubs, this community and indeed our school. So go n-éiri go geal le Karen, Jamie, Dermot and teammates in their sporting year ahead.

Is mise,            Michael J. O’ Ryan – Principal.
