News Update – 28/04/2023

Religious Inspection – Sr Antoinette visited us on Monday last and verbally reported back very favourably on her visit to each of the classes; the teaching, the pupil knowledge of the curriculum and their preparedness, participation with stories, prayers and hymns. Maith sibh, staff and students alike.
School Tours – As promised, the following is the itinerary for this year’s school tours in date order;
Rg 1 & 2 – Dublin Zoo. Fri 26th May – € 0
(Danny Norris had a strong bond with Dublin Zoo, from pandas to zookeepers and with a nod to this fact and in his late memory, Lisa, Lar and family approached us and are very generously sponsoring this tour for Danny’s classmates. We appreciate this very thoughtful gesture and are very happy to work together on this venture.
Rg 3 & 4 – Zipit Cork. Thurs 1st June – € 30
Rg 5 & 6 – Craggaunowen / Bunratty / Crescent S.C. Fri 2nd June – € 35
Jun. & Sen. – Lismore Heritage Centre. Tues 6th June – € 25
Teachers will be in contact with respective families in due course. Pupils can start bringing in money towards the tour from Tuesday next. (As always, please contact me if there are any issues of a monetary nature.)
Academic Calendar – A hard copy for Term 3 was distributed to families this week. It is also available on our website under the ‘Parent Info’ tab. https://www.ballymacns.com – Academic Calendar Term 3 The two changes of note are in the last week of school. The Dept has requested us to have four half days in total this year to engage with the Primary Language Curriculum and the New Curriculum Framework. Instead of taking four half days, we have taken two full days. Unfortunately, we cannot take them concurrently.
Defibrillator – Our defibrillator is now registered with the National Ambulance Service and the official location is to the rear of Ballymacarbry N.S. The Eircode is E91 E426. The door code can be retrieved by ringing Emergency Services 999/112 and calling out this Eircode. The Eircode is printed on the unit.
School Transport – The closing date for school transport application for the upcoming school year is this evening. https://schooltransport.buseireann.ie An email was sent to those wishing to enrol and also those in Rg 6 on Wednesday last.
Hurling Coaching – Thanks to the coaches from FMW Hurling Club who are giving of their time on Fridays to help develop the skills of the older pupils.
Darkness into Light – Ballymacarbry Community Centre will hold a Darkness into Light walk in the early hours of Sat 6th May in aid of Pieta House. We support this in the interest of child and adult mental health and well-being. Those interested are asked to assemble at the Centre from 4 am, for a 4:15am start. Tea / coffee will be provided afterwards.
Reminder – First Holy Communion will take place later that same morning in FMW Church at 11 am and in the Nire Church on Sunday 14th May, also at 11 am.
Education Passport – This form will be distributed to Rang 6 for completion by themselves and their parents next week. Once completed it will be forwarded to their secondary school of choice.
